Moleaer’s Nanobubble Technology and CPI Equipment’s ODiN System to Improve Ocean-Based Salmon Farming
Companies collaborated to pioneer a sustainable and cost-effective solution that addresses the unique challenges of the salmon farming industry
February 25, 2022 — (Carson, CA/Campbell River, BC) — Moleaer, the leading nanobubble technology company, announced today the results of its partnership, working in collaboration with Grieg Seafood BC Ltd. (Grieg) and CPI Equipment that demonstrated significant advancements in sustainability for semi-enclosed salmon farming production.
The project, known as the CO²L Flow system (pronounced Cool Flow), was conducted by Grieg using Moleaer’s patented nanobubble technology and CPI’s ODiN system, for the development of a semi-enclosed containment system that optimizes water quality and oxygen availability to promote healthy fish growth in a protected environment. Utilizing Moleaer’s nanobubble technology resulted in a 75 percent reduction in oxygen use when compared to existing technologies.
Moleaer’s nanobubble generators work by injecting trillions of oxygen-rich nanobubbles into water supplies, increasing the dissolved oxygen (DO) levels at the highest transfer efficiency and the lowest cost, delivering meaningful expense reductions to salmon farming operations.
“We are committed to implementing sustainable, long-term solutions to address some of the challenges we face as ocean farmers. Using Moleaer’s technology, we can safely deploy sea lice barriers down to 15 meters without compromising mixing and dissolved oxygen levels inside the net pen. This is important for us as maintaining optimal conditions within the new CO²L Flow System when the barriers are down is critical to the health and welfare of our fish,” said Dean Trethewey, Seawater Production Director of Grieg Seafood.
“Technology and innovation are the backbone of the aquaculture industry. We work very closely with our clients, especially Grieg Seafood BC, to always listen to the farmer’s issues and recommendations to help improve our technology and create innovative solutions. Our latest collaboration with Moleaer’s nanobubble technology was a huge success and if deployed will be a game-changer for other fish farming companies in every region in the world,” said Kris McNichol, President or CPI Equipment Inc.
“The aquaculture industry requires sustainable solutions that enable increases in output without jeopardizing our environment. Our technology is unique because we’re delivering nanobubbles with proven benefits in reducing oxygen and energy costs, while remediating the surrounding environment, and producing better water quality and higher output of fish,” said Nicholas Dyner, CEO of Moleaer.
Moleaer continues to advance sustainability in aquaculture with leading Salmon and Shrimp producers worldwide, integrating its technology into existing and new oxygenation systems. For more information, please visit moleaer.com.

About Moleaer
MoleaerTM is an American-based nanobubble technology company with a mission to unlock nanobubbles’ full potential to enhance and protect water, food, and natural resources. Moleaer has established the nanobubble industry in the U.S. by developing the first nanobubble generator that can perform cost-effectively at municipal and industrial scale. Moleaer’s patented nanobubble technology provides the highest proven oxygen transfer rate in the aeration and gas infusion industry, with an efficiency of over 85 percent per foot of water (Michael Stenstrom, UCLA, 2017). Through partnerships with universities, Moleaer has proven that nanobubbles are a chemical-free and cost-effective solution to increasing sustainable food production, restoring aquatic ecosystems, and improving natural resource recovery. Moleaer has deployed more than 700 nanobubble generators worldwide since 2016. To learn more, visit: www.Moleaer.com
About nanobubbles
Nanobubbles are tiny bubbles, invisible to the naked eye and 2,500 times smaller than a single grain of table salt. Bubbles at this scale remain suspended in water for long periods, enabling highly efficient oxygen transfer and supersaturation of dissolved gas in liquids. Nanobubbles also treat and eliminate pathogens and contaminants of emerging concern as well as scour surfaces to break apart biofilm matrices, creating a powerful, sustainable, and chemical-free disinfectant (Shiroodi, S., Schwarz, M.H., Nitin, N. et al., Food Bioprocess Technol, 2021).
About CPI Equipment
CPI EQUIPMENT INC is a Canadian based company specializing in Aquaculture Solutions around the globe. CPI manufactures, designs and installs aeration systems, mort retrieval systems, ensilage systems, central pumping systems, HDPE projects and more worldwide. Working together with their clients CPI continues to search for and create new products and innovations to improve the everchanging aquaculture market. Most of the equipment is designed locally by the company’s professional engineering, design and machine team located on Vancouver Island, British Columbia.
